Photos of Japan: Gokurakji Temple, Yamato

A few pictures from a local Buddhist temple, hidden snugly in a pocket of land between a busy road and apartment blocks. You wouldn’t know it upon entering the grounds, though. Surrounded by trees, the temple has a feel of calm and the sounds you hear are birds chirping, as well as the dripping of water from the bamboo pipe feeding the little font, carved from granite stone you can see in the pictures here. Of course, this waffling on about peace and tranquillity might also be related to the fact that this is one of the first temples I’ve visited while in Japan 🙂
