Data in motion: Depressing, beautiful warning for the Baltic Sea

A data visualisation (of sorts) of ship traffic throughout the Baltic Sea (I’m part Danish; we call it Østersøen, meaning ‘East Lake’…it might be one of the few instances of Danish megalomania…I mean, we did used to rule most of the countries in the area, but that was back in Viking times).

The video is a warning of the imminent risk of what would happen, if there was an oil spill. Shortly put, it would, of course, be a disaster.

While over the top on the music side, and a bit heavy-handed on the pathos, it is an effective, as well as beautiful, warning of what might happen, should catastrophe strike:
