Photos of Japan: Mount Takao Statues

I recently climbed Mount Takao on the outskirts of Tokyo. It is a very nice, and very uniquely Japanese experience, I think.

Walk for 15 minutes from the bottom of the mountain (it’s only 600 metres, but when you come from Denmark that still more than qualifies as a mountain) you are on a little path, surrounded by nothing but green, lush vegetation, and all you can hear are the sounds of nature.

Get to the top, and you are presented with a vista that to one side includes large portions of the Tokyo metrolipolitan area, home to more than 30 million people, all told.

It is a bit surreal 🙂

The mountain is also home to a series of beautiful temples, and a slew of great statues.

Here are some of the pictures from the trip.
