Japanese mascots have their very own Grand Prix!

Living in Japan means coming face to face with mascots on a daily basis. Here, they’re by no means the sole property of sports teams. Oh no, here every self-respecting city, government agency, company, organisation – hell, even prison – have a mascot.

And being Japan, some of them can seem pretty strange to a westerner. For example, my local university has a mascot that pretty much looks like an elongated, albino turnip.

But even that one is…well, I’ll let John Oliver explain:
